REMINDER: TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO ENTER THE MOM SERIOUSLY GIVEAWAY! CLICK HERE!
One summer evening not too long ago, I was enjoying an outdoor concert on a beautiful college campus. The event drew lots of young families, offering parents a chance to hear great music while their kids played freely in the grassy arena. A little boy, around one year old, took great interest in my circle of friends. He ambled over to wave at us, babble, and smile. Every time he came our way, however, his mom would quickly follow, scoop him up, and take him back to what she had designated as his "area." The third time he came over, I noticed the T-shirt he had on. It read: "MY PARENTS ARE EXHAUSTED." Talk about a good fit! Truthfully, if we are doing the parenting thing right, we will be exhausted! Tiring though it may be, one of the most critical points of good parenting lies in being consistent with our children.
This little boy's mom was consistent. Every time her son toddled "out of bounds," she came to get him. She had the same reaction each time, diligently teaching him to stay within the boundaries she had set for him. Was she tired? You bet! But soon she got through to him! She was able then to enjoy the concert, her little one playing contentedly at her side. Watching her, I was reminded of the nature of my Heavenly Father. Because I am His child, I have experienced His consistent parenting. Have you?
