I honestly consider some of the choices that my husband and I made in the early years (such as we wouldn't do santa, we wouldn't trick or treat, etc) as preparation for the big choice that we made: homeschooling! And I think, also, that it paved the way for our kids to know what it feels like to be different, to feel like they are "the only ones," so that they would be familiar with going against the flow when it came to peer pressure issues.

Please don't read that I think I've done everything right! :) We've made so many mistakes along the way. But I have never regretted NOT doing santa. :)Rebecca Ingram Powellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16122233191665540237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3389312643810792511.post-76416939716630888682010-12-09T13:22:23.550-06:002010-12-09T13:22:23.550-06:00Thank you Rebecca, for this series. My kids know who he is, but he's definitely not what the season is about. Last year, about 2 months after Christmas, my then 5 year old asked me if Santa was real. I told her the truth, and because we never made a big deal, she was very receptive. Anyway, a lot of what you are talking about is what we do, and this just really validates it for me because I felt like I was the only one.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
